Therapy

Therapy is a space for reflection, introspection, change, healing, and being in relation with a trained mental health professional who is invested in holding space for you in a way that may not otherwise be provided in your life.

“Talk Therapy” is a term being used on this site to differentiate from art therapy services, though both involve talking as processing. Talk therapy in this referred sense is a traditional form of therapy where processing occurs through verbalization, reflection, clarification, and integration. It is a sought after and important service.

I have multiple years of clinical practice and expertise in talk therapy, and am independently licensed in the state of Maryland to do so. A space where someone feels heard and seen is at the heart of the work I do.

Dually Licensed

Being dually licensed in talk and art therapy allows me to individualize and tailor approaches to each person’s desired outcomes, presenting needs, and points of exploration. No art expertise is needed for art therapy, as it is not an art class, and the option to use art therapy is entirely up to you. Sometimes the use of art therapy allows someone who feels “stuck” to have an unique opportunity for a new perspective, and/or a new avenue for exploration.

Art Therapy

  • Art therapy is a process with a licensed and trained clinician that involves talking, art making, creative expression, and processing. The exact flow is tailored to each individual. Art Therapy allows individuals to have a new way of looking at things. It also allows distress to be expressed in a way that can feel contained, and less overwhelming, for individuals. The concern can be processed via the art at “arms length” with the client and art therapist, until the individual is able to integrate insight and change. Art therapy does not require “talent” and is not about a finished product, but about finding a way to express oneself and be seen and heard.

  • It is my true belief that anyone could benefit from art therapy, as no artistic talent is required, and this unique process can be helpful to all. If you have felt stuck in therapy before, or find yourself gravitating to creative ways of expressing and exploring your emotions, then it may especially be beneficial.

  • Yes! Art therapy is for all populations and walks of life and abilities - adolescents, adults, individuals, and even whole families.

  • It is. The same CPT codes and treatment plan goals are used, just a different methodology.

  • I do. And, if desiring to bring in any material of your own, that is welcome, too. If doing virtually art therapy, we will collaborate together on material provisions.

  • That’s okay! I also love and value talk therapy, and it’s the sole or primary therapy need for many people.

Imagination is not just the catalyst of art.

It’s also the catalyst of compassion.”
