frequently asked questions
Where are you located?
My in-person services are located in Timonium, MD and I provide virtual services for anyone residing in Maryland as well.
Do you work with all age groups?
I work all individuals who are age 15 or older. If an adolescent, both biological parents must be consenting to treatment for legal purposes. I have clinical experience in working with both adolescent and adult populations alike, and value working with both.
What are different theoretical models you use?
Above all else, I focus on a humanitarian approach that fundamentally emphasizes empathy, congruence between you and I, and an unconditional positive regard. I also believe the safety and trust within the therapeutic relationship is important above all else, which is why I invite you to ask questions, get to know what to expect, and interview me during our free 15 minute consultation. I also invite feedback and collaboration in our work together at any time, as I truly believe it is an important practice for the unique and reconciling relationship that therapy begets. In addition to these perspectives, I employ evidence based practices and theoretical perspectives of: CBT, DBT, UT, ACT, IFS-informed, trauma-informed, attachment-informed, psychodynamic relational, existential, systems-based, and relational cultural theory.
What does the initial session (60-90 minute intake) consists of?
I will do a full biopsychosocial assessment during intake, along with reviewing paperwork, compiling possible releases of information that would be pertinent to collaborating with your other providers, and getting to know your history, concerns, and hopes in order to develop a treatment plan and relationship that you feel entrusting of enough to continue in consistent sessions for treatment.

I take payment directly from my clients for services provided, and I ask that a debit or credit card be on file to be charged from my electronic health and billing system, SimplePractice. SimplePractice is a HIPAA compliant and secure platform that will ensure privacy of this information. Payment is due at time of service for co-pay, session amount if deductible not yet met, or cost of session in its entirety if I am your out of network or private pay provider.
I accept four insurances: BCBC/Carefirst, Cigna, Optum, and UnitedHealthCare (UHC). I am also an "out-of-network" provider, which means that if your insurance company offers out-of-network benefits, you should receive some reimbursement for the cost of my services. Most insurance companies that provide out-of-network benefits cover between 50% - 75% of the cost per session, after their deductible is met. I routinely provide my clients with appropriate documentation to get reimbursement for my services, which are superbills generated monthly through SimplePractice in the client portal. More frequent documentation can be provided as discussed, as well.
How would I know what my insurance reimburses?
The best way to find out what your out-of-network coverage includes is to contact your insurance company.

Is there a session limit per year?
Is there pre-authorization required? If so, what information do you need for this? Is there a specific form that needs to be filled out?
We can talk about this if your coverage is confusing, or if you need any help understanding the information you have received from your insurance provider.
